JOB SUMMARY

  • The primary function of this position is to perform component research, component selection, obsolescence management, documentation of electronic components and development of component standards for high reliability product designs. 
  • Will be responsible for bridging the gap between engineering, purchasing, production and vendors.  In addition, this position provides production engineering support to the Inventory Control and Wiring Departments.
  • Support the company vision, mission and values while promoting continuous improvement and cost savings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide Component Support - 50%

  • Control, develop and standardize electronic component selection, application and specifications.
  • Interface with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and suppliers to address component issues.
  • Locate suppliers and determine economic order quantities for components.
  • Assists in the resolution of supplier problems and provides follow-up and expediting of supplier deliveries.

Handle Component obsolescence - 20%

  • Manage component obsolescence, track part life cycles and plan for component end of life.
  • Evaluate component substitutions, qualify alternative parts and identify high risk components.
  • Locate suitable replacements for obsolete or long lead time parts.  Assist with the testing of replacements when necessary.

Provide Production Engineering Support to Wiring and Inventory Control - 20%

  • Help manage inventory levels through analysis of purchasing practices and ERP parameter settings.
  • Assist in the development of wire harnesses for new and/or existing products.

Failure Analysis - 5%

  • Provide support during component and assembly failure analysis.

Additional Functions - 5%

  • Serve on various internal committees and/or task forces to assist the company in various programs and/or special projects, i.e. Internal ISA Auditor, IPC Trainer, Outsourcing, Capital Expenditures and Continuous Improvement projects.

Required Education: 

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required.

Associates Degree and several years related experience will be considered.

Required Experience: 

Minimum of 1-2 years experience preferred.  Procurement related experience required with at least 2 as an electrical or component engineer preferred.

Working knowledge of electronic components will be key to the selection of a qualified candidate, as well as an understanding of reliability theory and physics of failure.

  • Proficient knowledge of products, design and quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills essential to interface with Customers, Sales, Purchasing Manufacturing and Engineering Departments.
  • Thorough knowledge of ERP Systems for component engineering activities.
  • Effective skills in planning, monitoring and accomplishing specific project.  Identifies appropriate standards and measures.  All with general supervision.
  • Work independently, take initiative and prioritize multiple assignments with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Have the ability to establish effective relationships and work in a team environment to meet team and company goals.
  • Be able to demonstrate an ability to read a basic component data sheet to create a working test circuit and be able to make appropriate connections from that circuit to bench test equipment for data measurement.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical theory including ohms law and basic math skills are necessary to perform in this position.
